The verb travel when in a new place seems an easy downhill glide pattern. The bigger challenge I believe, is seeing the uniqueness of those things closest. Traveling at home embodies this idea. It is much harder to be a tourist in your own back yard and yet for me this can be the most satisfying.
Seeing the familiar in a new way enriches and enlivens. I have the digital tools; a recorder and camera but the most important tool is being open, breaking the habitual perceptual patterns and seeing things in a new light.
The camera with it's light sensitivity helps me in that it “sees” in ways different than my eyes. Reflections and shadows are so easily filtered and ignored by the eye and so the camera is my guide rope that leads me, capturing light at times in surprising ways.
