As the cycle of activity slows I begin to think about improvements for next year, like a farmer I suppose; better use of the space, better slug preventive measures, Spring aids for the tomatoes to keep them warmer and dryer.
Fall Broccoli

This month I realized that it was actually a good year for tomatoes in the garden, I harvested a huge amount of tomatoes, many from only one plant (Health Kick variety). The tomatoes were about a month and a half later than usual. I made a double batch of spaghetti sauce and gave tomatoes to co-workers and neighbors.
The broccoli was in part harvested in late October and will be ready in November. These are the plant I started from seed in the July hot weather.
It has also been a month of preparation for fall/winter in the garden, digging in leaf mulch and some organic fertilizer and turning the soil. The last week of the month turned wet and cooler and so the last tomato plant was removed.
The leaves are falling at home, soon to be my ground cover for the garden. As the cycle of activity slows I begin to think about improvements for next year, like a farmer I suppose; better use of the space, better slug preventive measures, Spring aids for the tomatoes to keep them warmer and dryer.
