Early Broccoli
The month began very hopeful in terms of weather. It was fairly warm and sunny and I got the first peas planted in the first week of the month, broccoli plants at the same time. They were tiny broccoli and I used the copper rings that I bought to keep away the slugs from the tender young plants. I planted two rows of peas.
It seemed that as soon as my optimism was expressed, the planting, the weather changed and got cooler. A couple of days we got snow flurries, some hail and the nights got cool like December or January.
After two weeks I could see the beginnings of peas, they were coming up but I could tell the cool weather was a big factor in slowing progress. I spread some Slugo to protect the young buds.
The AFT/NEA higher Education Conference in San Jose happened during Spring break, the last week of March and heavy rains in Portland. Meanwhile, in San Jose I swan in an outside pool at San Jose State University, one day it reached into the high 70's there. I flew home to high 40's and rain at the end of the month.
