The month started like a tomato plant's dream. Warm days in the 80's nights not too cool and plenty of sun. This heat lasted for over a week and then the more usual cloudy days with temperatures in the 60's arrived. It was startling to see how much growth occurred during our heat spell. We even had a late afternoon thunderstorm one day.

All is growing well. I have harvested spinach, and broccoli and the tops of the beets so far. There are flowers on most of my tomato plants, the pea plants have flowers and beans are growing. Not too many pests at this point.

Almost the whole month was cool and normal moisture but the tomatoes are green and producing lush growth. The peas have matured and I am harvesting them, next year I will build a trellis for them.

I harvested my first beet this month and begin digging in leaves for the warmer July and August weather. Beans and cucumbers are doing well.

I feel like my previous experience and total embrace of the garden has really made this a enriching, nurturing experience. Two or three hours each week is all that it needs.
