This month started out cooler than expected, a welcome relief from the extraordinary hot weather that the last week of July brought us. The tomatoes and cucumbers and peppers are coming in now. Tomatoes, so many we don't know what to do with them!! They are shared with neighbors, co-workers and still the kitchen has more tomatoes and cucumbers.

I have three types of cucumbers and basically two types of tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and tomatoes slightly bigger about a two inch tomato, both very tastey. I will grow each of them next year, fewer tomato plants, fewer cucumber plants. Add squash and plant beans at three week intervals.

I took out the beans this month, harvesting the last of them and the beets as well. I harvested some lettuce. I have two late broccoli plants and a few late spinach plants doing well in addition to the tomatoes and cucumbers.

We got some rain during the month and it appears it will be a normal rain month for August in Portland.
