The month began with a warm spell. Unfortunately, it didn't last long. On April 11th I did see signs of seeds coming up, although the weather turned cooler over the weekend. Even worst, I am looking for slug solutions that are natural for the broccoli plants that are being eaten by slugs and it continues to rain.

For the moment I put some lime granules around the plans Sluggo seems to be the commercial product. On Easter day I tried to see if the hardware store had Sluggo, thinking resurrection and death for slugs but it was closed for the holiday.

The seeds I planted last week inside both cucumber and more broccoli have sprouted. I will be putting the broccoli outside for weathering, possibly as early as tomorrow. I am hopeful that I can get some cucumber plants a head start and transplant into the garden in about a month. We'll see.

More seed planting and Sluggo to protect the young broccoli plants. The heat spell gets me out to the garden after work to water and this past weekend I transported the peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers to the greenhouse on the North side of the house not as much light there but it is good for getting them used to the cool nights and mornings.

The last weekend of the month gets carrots and more beets planted in the garden. I dig in some compost around the peas and broccoli. I still see signs of slugs. The tomatoes, peppers, cucumber starts now reside in the greenhouse 24/7 for weathering. I do some transferring to bigger pots. Debating when these warm weather plants will go to the outdoor garden, mid-May? Herbs will go to the garden soon.
